Swiss Architectural Award

Xu Tiantian, founder of DnA Design and Architecture studio (China), is the winner of the eighth Swiss Architectural Award, a biennial international architecture prize promoted since 2018 by the Fondazione Teatro dell’architettura.

The eighth edition of the Swiss Architectural Award, confirms the collaboration between the three Swiss Schools of Architecture USI – Accademia di architettura, Mendrisio; EPFL – ENAC, Section d’Architecture, Lausanne; ETHZ – Departement Architektur, Zurich, represented in the jury, chaired by architect Mario Botta, by their deans/directors, Walter Angonese, Dieter Dietz and Tom Emerson. The Award benefits from the organizational and operative support of the Università della Svizzera italiana – Academy of Architecture.

With this cooperation, which reaffirms the Award’s national importance, the Swiss Architectural Award confirms it is one of the best endowed and most prestigious architectural awards, by virtue of an advisory committee consisting of internationally renowned architects and architecture critics.

The Swiss Architectural Award aims to promote a kind of architecture that is sensitive to contemporary ethical, aesthetic and ecological issues and can facilitate public and disciplinary debate. The prize is awarded, on a biennial basis, to architects not older than 50 years (in the year in which the Award is launched), without distinction of nationality, who have completed at least three significant works.

The prize, which amounts to CHF 100,000, will be presented to the winner on 4th May 2023 at the Auditorium of Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio of Università della Svizzera italiana. The ceremony will launch the exhibition of the works submitted by the candidates.

Xu Tiantian – DnA Design and Architecture was chosen from 26 candidates from 14 countries, selected by the committee of advisors, who fully met the expectations of the award promoters and jury.

The jury unanimously conferred the Swiss Architectural Award 2022 to Xu Tiantian for the reuse of the Shimen Bridge over the Songyin River (2016-2017), the tofu factory in Caizhai Village (2017-2018), and the reuse of the Jinyun quarries (2021-2022), with the following reasons:
The three works presented by Xu Tiantian, located in both Songyang and Jinyun counties (a rural area in Zhejang province (China) characterised by a landscape whose traditional structure has been preserved on the one hand, and on the other threatened by the depopulation process induced by the migration of younger people to the region’s urban centres) convinced the jury for the successful combination between the civic instances animating them (as they aim to serve local communities) and the quality of the proposed architecture, characterised by a marked attention to the context, by a precise and poetic attitude at the same time, and by the blending of different scales and themes, between architecture and infrastructure, between permanent and ephemeral, between reuse and ex-novo intervention.

The jury considered the Xu Tiantian work perfectly suited to the objectives of Swiss Architectural Award, i.e. to recognise and raise the public profile of architects from all over the world who, through their work, have made a significant contribution to contemporary architecture, in particular by demonstrating environmental awareness and thus helping to improve the quality of life of humankind.
The jury of the eighth edition was chaired by Mario Botta and composed of Walter Angonese (Director of the Accademia di architettura, USI), Stéphanie Bru (winner, with the Paris-based studio Bruther, of the seventh SAA edition), Dieter Dietz (Director of the Section d’Architecture, EPFL-ENAC) and Tom Emerson (Dean of the Departement Architektur, ETHZ).

The candidates for the eighth edition were nominated by a committee of advisor consisting of Manuel Aires Mateus, Lisbon (Portugal); Solano Benitez, Asunción (Paraguay); Angelo Bucci, São Paulo (Brazil); Marianne Burkhalter, Zurich (Switzerland); Sean Godsell, Melbourne (Australia); Junya Ishigami, Tokyo (Japan); Shelley McNamara, Dublin (Ireland); Valerio Olgiati, Flims (Switzerland); András Pálffy, Vienna (Austria); Elisa Valero, Granada (Spain); Paolo Zermani, Parma (Italy).

The candidates in the 2022 edition of the Swiss Architectural Award were: Atelier Masōmī – Mariam Kamara (Niger), Bernardo Bader (Austria), Barão Hutter (Ivo Mendes Barão Teixeira, Peter Hutter, Switzerland), Giulio Basili (Italy), Bloco Arquitetos (Daniel Mangabeira, Henrique Coutinho, Matheus Seco, Brazil), Manuel Cervantes (Mexico), dekleva gregoric architects (Aljoša Dekleva, Tina Gregorič, Slovenia); Domat (Maggie Ma, Mark Kingsley, China); Estudio Flume (Christian Teshirogi, Noelia Montero, Brazil), Estudio Macías Peredo (Magui Peredo, Salvador Macías, Messico), Graux & Baeyens (Basile Graux, Koen Baeyens, Belgium), Grillovasiu (Romina Grillo, Liviu Vasiu, Switzerland), Go Hasegawa (Japan), Carla Juaçaba (Brazil), Ryan Kennihan (Ireland),

LACOL Arquitectura Cooperativa (Spain), lopes brenna (Cristiana Lopes, Giacomo Brenna, Switzerland), Rozana Montiel (Mexico), Nickisch Walder Architekten (Georg Nickisch, Selina Walder, Switzerland), RAMA estudio (Carla Chávez, Felipe Donoso, Carolina Rodas, Ecuador), Sugiberri (Mayu Takasugi, Johannes Berry, Belgium), Ted’A Arquitectes (Irene Perez Pifferer, Jaume Mayol Amengual, Spain); Terra+Tuma (Danilo Terra, Fernanda Sakano, Pedro Tuma, Juliana Terra, Brazil), Tropical Space (Tran Thi Ngu Ngon, Nguyen Hai Long, Vietnam), Xu Tiantian – DnA Design and Architecture (China), Raphael Zuber (Switzerland).

What Instagram Trends Have There Been in 2022

The social media landscape is constantly shifting and evolving. As digital platforms adopt new technology and new practices, users will need to adapt their behaviour to meet new standards to ensure their posts don’t get lost amongst the noise.

Some trends appear and disappear in the blink of an eye, while others take hold and become social media sensations. Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of it all. We’ve put together a list of some of the top trends seen on Instagram in 2022. Check it out below.

The Rise Of Reels

Photos are still king on Instagram. The platform remains the de facto place to post photos online. While our snaps can still be printed and made into collections through photo book maker services, posting them online at the same time has become second nature.

However, the explosive rise of TikTok has made people question whether video content is the future. Instagram seemed worried about this, launching their own Reels feature in response to TikTok’s success.

Reels was launched in 2020, but it was this year that we saw the feature really take. Instagram updated Reels to accommodate longer videos and added a slew of editing options to rival TikTok. Creators on Instagram who had previously focused purely on still images have begun to foray into producing video content for the platform.

More Influencers

Social media influencers are often thought of as super-rich celebrities who have follower counts numbering in the tens of millions. However, in 2022 we have started to see an increase in smaller-scale influencers and brand partners, often referred to as micro-influencers.

Brands have noticed that some people can have a hard time relating to famous influencers and that their marketing campaigns were stagnating or performing poorly. In response to this, some companies have opted to work with less established and less obvious influencers, users with modest follower numbers and more natural posts and feeds. This has worked to help brands better connect with consumers on a deeper level, and it’s something we can definitely expect to see more of as we head into 2023.

Going Live

Live streaming is a booming industry, with platforms like Twitch enjoying incredible viewing figures and spawning a whole new subculture of content.

Instagram has had a live feature for a number of years, but we saw it really take off in 2022. Brands and influencers can go live to give consumers a more personal insight and connection, while friends and family can go live simply for the fun of it.

More Stories

Instagram’s Story feature launched in 2016 and has gone through numerous iterations since then. It is now one of the platform’s most popular features. It is used by everyone, from basic users to celebrities, to offer a snapshot into their daily life. The feature allows for quick editing options such as captions, stickers, and music and was an incredibly popular creative feature throughout 2022.

Conclusion

Use this guide to look back on the top Instagram trends in 2022 and predict what the platform’s future could look like.

What does 9 6 mean in video poker?

There are dozens of types of poker, and video poker is one of the more popular versions. Within the broader categories of video poker and poker, you can play many different variations of the game. Poker is believed to have been created hundreds of years ago and played right across the world, in some form, ever since.

Video poker is a new phenomenon compared to traditional games. However, it is still well established compared to other online gambling markets, such as digital casinos, which have emerged in the last 10 to 15 years. Crypto video poker is becoming also popular, with many people opting to play with Bitcoin and Ethereum instead of dollars or euros.

In video poker, a 9 6 means full-play jacks or better. This is a common term that is used and is the most popular and well-known version of video poker. Once computer technology entered popular culture throughout the 1980s, video poker spearheaded the gaming revolution underpinning this seismic cultural change.

Video poker still has a core group of enthusiasts who often prefer to play it over other casino games and traditional poker games such as Texas Hold Em.

Whilst playing a physical game of poker relies on reading your opponent’s body language, video poker works slightly differently. Players prefer to opt for a strategy-heavy approach that allows them to gamble in solace without having to play mind games which can be mentally exhausting throughout a long session.

Why Is 9 6 The Most Popular Method?

As the payoff for a full house is 9 times the bet and the payoff for a flush is 6 times the bet, the odds multiplier is enough for regular players to fancy their chances. It is considered the best mix of risk vs reward when partaking in a video poker game.

Players want the opportunity to win a good bit of money, but they also don’t want to enter a game where the odds of a return are so astronomical that there isn’t any point in playing. Therefore, the full play jacks or better method satisfies both of these questions.

How To Establish If A Video Poker Machine Is 9 6

Previously, in the primitive days of video poker, the way you could identify a 9 6 was very straightforward. All you needed to look out for was the 9/6 “fraction”. This refers to a one-coin payoff for a flush or a full house. If the pay table clearly showed that it allowed this type of payoff, you’d easily identify this type of machine as a full play jacks or better 9 6 machine.

Do You Have More Chance Of Winning On This Machine?

No, video poker machines have a built-in mechanism that randomly generates payout and deals the cards in random order. Although plenty of players prefer this type of game due to the payout you get for a flush or full house, you aren’t more likely to win with this type of video poker machine when compared to any other poker game. This includes games played in the physical casino and other digital poker games, including video and virtual games online.

You must ensure that you keep your experience fun. This is the key aim of any online game you play. Suppose you have started spending more time on your casino game than you anticipated or started spending more money than you initially planned. In that case, these are both red flags and issues you need to address immediately.

Gambling should not be seen as a form of income. If you begin to chase losses and gamble angrily, you need to make sure that you consult a professional who will help you address these issues as quickly as possible to stop you from losing any more money.

750th anniversary via 360 MAGAZINE.

CA’ DI DIO’s 750TH ANNI

This December, the building that in 2021 became Venice’s Hotel Ca’ di Dio will be celebrating its 750th anniversary, tracing its history back to the Italian Middle Ages in The Floating City.

Ca’ di Dio sits within an ancient compound built in 1272 as a refuge for pilgrims, the poor, women in distress and visitors. The “House of God” is located in the Castello district, a distinguished position overlooking the beautiful San Marco Basin. Ca’ di Dio’s site is linked to the Biennale, as it also sits at the entrance of the “Contemporary Art District.” Over the years, the palace has been renovated multiple times in order to expand its terrain, hosting an ever larger number of guests. For instance, in 1544, each individual room was successfully equipped with a kitchen and a fireplace (its chimneys can still be seen today on the building’s façade). By 1973, the complex housed 92 rooms allocated to people in need, of any gender, age and background. The palace was acquired by Alpitour Group in early 2019.

Entrusting the entire interior design project to renowned architect Patricia Urquiola, Ca’ di Dio underwent its latest restoration and redevelopment in 2021. The design concept borrows from local culture and materials, including the city’s famed Murano glass, wood, brick, stone and marble. But that is not all: the building’s internal courtyards provide visitors with a space to feel at peace, especially after days spent exploring all that Venice has to offer. The traditional gardens include two original wells and several herringbone-patterned brick paths. “The project was guided by careful research aimed at enhancing historical refinement, reinterpreted in a contemporary key,” Ca’ di Dio’s representatives affirm.

To celebrate its 750th anniversary, Ca’ di Dio’s kitchen has crafted a special new menu, focusing on the experience of traditional cuisine and mixology. Venetian-style liver pâté, sugary polenta, and fried custard are only a few of the dishes offered for the event. The themed cocktails aim to take guests back to the Middle Ages, with simple, “typical” flavors such as whisky, cinnamon, clove and pomegranate. “Cocktail 1272,” “Malvasia Nera” and “Amphora” make up the cocktail list.

Ca’ di Dio’s concept of ‘Ventessentia’ “revives the true essence of the city … which can be discovered slowly by savoring, walking, tasting and experiencing, all at once, 1600 years of history,” says Christophe Mercier, General Manager.

ABOUT CA’ DI DIO:

From the VRetreats lifestyle collection, the Ca’ di Dio hotel opened in August 2021 in Venice, within walking distance of Piazza San Marco and adjacent to the Arsenale, site of the iconic art Biennale. Set within a complex that dates from the 13th-century, the hotel is designed by the star Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola, and comprises 66 rooms, 57 of which are suites. Many of the suites offer jaw-dropping views of the lagoon and the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, while two suites feature grand rooftop terraces.
