CLAIRE SILVER AT CHRISTIE’S

Anonymous AI-Collaborative artist CLAIRE SILVER will have two works represented in Christie’s and Gucci’s Future Frequencies: Explorations in Generative Art and Fashion collection, open for bidding July 18 – 25, 2023. Featured in the auction are “style moderne”—an homage to the Art Deco movement—and “Shinjitai”—a collaborative piece with Tokyo-based multidisciplinary artist Emi Kusano.

In each of her works, Silver creatively explores intersectional aspects of fashion, art, and technology. Interplay between autonomous systems, AI, and fashion represents a fusion of disparate ecosystems – overlaying fashion, an industry concerned with garment design and production, onto the worlds of generative art and artificial intelligence, which employ algorithms, modeling, and data to simulate human-like intelligence and artistic output. It’s an invitation to avant-garde thinking, with the motivation to propel radical new ideas and concepts around fashion’s supporting technologies towards future realities.

Claire Silver remarks, “I’m very proud to present two works: ‘Shinjitai,’ created in collaboration with Emi Kusano for Gucci, and ‘style moderne,’ a solo piece for Christie’s. ‘Shinjitai,’ which translates to “new character forms,” is wearable art that uses AI to merge the storied aesthetic of Gucci with the spirit of Harajuku fashion. Inspired by Art Deco, ‘style moderne’ uses machines to create an intimate digital home for its collector. Combining AI, 3D, film, and advanced mathematical functions with antique paintings and tapestries from China, Japan, and Eastern and Western Europe, both works are intended to celebrate the era of AI: the sophistication of experience, the innocent joy of the new, the depth of cultural heritage, and the light of the future. In the spirit of our digital + physical world, both works include physical components for their collectors–from rolls of fabric to hologram displays.” 

The  auction—which also showcases Emily Xie, William Mapan, Zach Lieberman, Botto, Helena Sarin, DRAUP, among others–takes places on Christie’s 3.0, a fully on-chain auction platform launched by Christie’s in 2022, and the works will also be highlighted on Gucci Art Space, Gucci’s online gallery space spotlighting and empowering artists by providing them with the freedom and latitude to harness uncharted, innovative concepts and expressions at the intersection of fashion and art, to disrupt and redefine existing norms. 

This auction and exhibition is showcased alongside Christie’s seventh Art + Tech Summit happening July 19 & 20 in New York City and the works will be on display at Christie’s at 20 Rockefeller Center July 14-23.

Christie’s 3.0 Claire Silver x Emi Kusano Shinjitai

Made using a mix of AI and public domain materials, ‘style modern” reflects on the spirit of the Art Deco movement and its parallels to our age. In Art Deco, all is made beautiful, no matter how humble. Utility and aesthetic are combined, equally important, with the goal of creating a sense of luxury and awe in those who view it. The focus, therefore, is using the industrial and practical to create a divine and intimate experience for human benefit. AI is, at its best, a natural succession of this philosophy. Public domain assets are human creativity set free, and in the spirit of our creative lineage, Claire included them in this piece. Human and machine, the past, present, and future work in harmony to create form and function.  AI was used to texture the 3D scene from pieces of AI-Collaborative art. The art combines advanced mathematical functions with ancient paintings from China, Japan, and Eastern and Western Europe, and the 3D textures were combined with tapestries from cultures across centuries. The film was originally public domain, reiterated several times with AI and finished with work done digitally (by hand).  In the spirit of abundance, this piece has two additional components:

1) A code entitling the collector to claim the 3D scene and associated files, so they may utilize the space digitally/in metaverse (this claim will take place in March 2024).

2) A physical hologram depicting the centerpiece of the work, the blooming flower. This hologram may be displayed physically however the collector sees fit.

Claire Silver is an anonymous AI-Collaborative artist whose work explores themes of innocence, trauma, the hero’s journey, and how our view of them will change in an increasingly transhumanist future. Her art can be found in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, has been sold at Sotheby’s London and has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and festivals all over the world.  Featured in the New York Times, WIRED, Fortune, NPR, and countless podcasts, Claire takes every opportunity to explore her unending fascination with AI, fight for visibility for this budding art movement, and wonder at the magnitude of this moment in history. About Emi Kusano

Emi Kusano is a Tokyo-based multidisciplinary artist who explores retro-futurism, accelerationism, and nostalgia for Japanese youth culture and anime. Her current career began as a street photographer in Harajuku, Tokyo, and has expanded to encompass everything from installations to music. Currently, Emi is pioneering in the field of post-photography, an art form that blends reality and fiction, combining old and new media to create a new visual language beyond the traditional boundaries of photography. Her groundbreaking work was selected as the first AI cover for WWD Japan and she continues to shape the future as a member of the Japanese Government’s Cultural  Council. Having been the apex of Duke’s live shows for the past few months, following the overwhelming reaction from fans, he releases “Losing Control.” A modern take on melodic techno nostalgia, the new track is a sonic eruption boasting hypnotic and euphoric synth prowess. Featuring vocals from The Boxer Rebellion frontman Nathan Nicholson, “Losing Control” is a masterclass from one of the world’s most versatile electronic musicians.

On the new single, Duke said: “I made this record alongside Nathan Nicholson with my live show experience in mind. Reebok’s Revives ‘Premier Road Plus VI’ Retro Runner

With the introduction of the ‘Premier Series’ in 2003, Reebok sought to reconnect with its storied running heritage. The result: a series of no-frills performance running products featuring new and cutting-edge technologies that would help reinvigorate a stagnant running footwear market. Premier Road Plus arrived as part of the series that year, with new iterations introduced yearly leading up to the model’s final installment – the Premier Road Plus VI – in 2009. 

Reflecting on the end of a pivotal era in Reebok performance innovation, Premier Road Plus VI returns in 2023 featuring a textile-synthetic mixed-material upper, textile lining, TPU midfoot transition plate, two-piece rubber outsole, and DMX Foam cushioning, which (as described by a 2004 Reebok Running ‘Premier Series’ catalogue) “creates dynamic cushioning through air channels molded in foam to deliver a traditional ride in a longer lasting, more lively feeling system.”

Launched on February 1st, 2003, the Premier Series line of running shoes sought to reconnect Reebok with its storied running heritage. The running market at the time lacked any serious performance options and desperately craved a no frills, excellent product. Seeing this absence in the market as a perfect opportunity, Reebok created a design team comprising exclusively of runners to keep the end user front-of-mind in the design process and developed of a variety of cutting-edge technologies such as DMX Foam, DMX Shear and Play Dry to outfit the product. The brand’s intuition, product, and approach were perfect – so perfect that the line sold over 1 million pairs in its first year and earned a litany of awards for its excellence. 

The first few years of the Premier Series were characterized aesthetically by a focus on metallic detailing and functionality thanks to the implementation of DMX Foam, DMX Shear and PlayDry. DMX Foam was a soft, proprietary cushioning technology that granted immense comfort to the runner. On the other hand, DMX Shear reduced the stress of the heel strike by slowing down the heel on impact. PlayDry, an apparel technology used to wick moisture and help regulate body temperature, was used as a shoe liner that absorbed moisture as it was released during a run. These technologies provided runners both comfort and functionality so successfully that David Lacorazza, the lead designer of the Premier Running Series, would go on to win a 2006 Designer of the Year distinction for his work.

Although the Premier Series was phased out in 2012 to make room for shoes donning ZigTech, Flex, and toning technology, the line’s popularity was strong enough for it to sell through 600,000 pairs each year.

Multi JUNO-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Charlotte Cardin has released “Jim Carrey,” the fourth offering from her stellar sophomore album 99 Nights (out August 25 via Cult Nation/Atlantic Records). The playful, upbeat track, partially inspired by the acclaimed actor of its title, is a love letter to personal freedom as Charlotte repeats in the anthemic chorus, “Goodbye my worthless ego / Without you I’m finally free, oh.”

On the new track, Cardin says, “It’s a special one. I went into this rabbit hole of Jim Carrey interviews. He discusses ego in an interesting way. In his perspective, our need for acceptance holds us back from embracing who we really are. The track explores getting rid of your ego. You can decide what your destiny is if you take a risk and accept to be who you really are at the fullest. It’s a metaphor, but marrying Jim Carrey is a good way to start the inner work.”

Cardin carefully assembled what would become 99 Nights while on the road in 2021. After initial sessions in Montréal, she wrote and recorded in London, Los Angeles, and Toronto to “fuel a creative free flow.”

She shares, “We called it 99 Nights, because it was a big journey through all of these worlds I needed to explore in order to touch base with the most important things in my life. I realized I needed to get the fuck out of where I was. The 99 Nights are a symbol of one chapter closing and another beginning. It’s nostalgic because there’s an ending, but it’s very hopeful since I’m starting over. The first few months of the process traced a path for the sound, emotion, and stories I would be sharing, hence the title.”

Cardin released her debut full-length album Phoenix in 2021 to immense acclaim (and platinum certification in Canada) including a sweep of 2022 Juno Awards that included wins for Artist, Album, Pop Album and Single of the Year and a 2022 Polaris Music Prize nomination. Praised by HYPEBAE for its “rippling melodies” and “stunningly raw vocals,” the album held the #1 spot in Canada for two weeks and boosted Cardin to over 400m global career audio streams. Get Down is a product of Pell and Young Franco’s unique yet perfect recipe: hip-hop, electronic, nudisco, and funk. Best described by Pell himself “ I’ve been really trying to make more records that encourage people to move. I come from New Orleans, the birthplace of bounce, so I’m all about rhythm, so this felt like a home cooked meal to me. Young Franco and MXXWLL set the table with the instrumental – so I had no choice but to eat. The HiPhi range consists of HiPhi X Super SUV and HiPhi Z Digital GT – the brand’s twin flagship models. The HiPhi X is an all-electric luxury super SUV which features a number of world and industry firsts, blending cutting-edge technology with luxury and advanced design, including no-touch automatic wing-opening doors. Its powertrain combines 220kW dual motors at the front and rear, allowing for 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.9 seconds, while a 97kWh battery pack provides a potential range of 460km under Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) conditions.

The HiPhi Z is a groundbreaking all-electric luxury GT which first begun production in China during 2022. It delivers a maximum output of 494kW via dual electric motors, to provide acceleration from 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.8 seconds. The 120kWh battery offers a potential 555km range under WLTP conditions. The model showcases a host of innovations, including the world-first HiPhi Bot, a robotic, multi-axis arm infotainment system with four degrees of freedom and eight-direction high-speed motion that can rotate between portrait and landscape modes.

The HiPhi Y was revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, joining as the third member of the HiPhi family, bringing the same blend of striking design, luxury and advanced technology. Orders for HiPhi Y will be available by the end of 2023.

HiPhi’s global expansion plans are unfolding rapidly, with the HiPhi X and the HiPhi Z now available to order in Germany and Norway, with the first vehicles already registered for road use, following inspection by TÜV SÜD. Customers will soon be able to experience the dual flagship models at Europe’s first HiPhi Hub showroom, located at Munich Airport. Product information is available at the new global HiPhi website (hiphi.com). Further European markets will be announced later in the year.

Prices for HiPhi X start at 109,000 EUR, with HiPhi Z from 105,000 EUR.

The first customers will receive their cars within the third quarter of 2023.
