ELLE Canada’s Exciting June Issue

KO Média is excited to unveil the June issue of ELLE Canada, featuring the stories of three inspiring women’s hockey players who believe equal sweat deserves equal opportunity. “A common misconception about women’s hockey is that we’re not skilled enough, but the game has changed drastically in the past 10 years and there are so many more opportunities allowing girls to work on their skills from a younger age and develop faster,” says Olympic silver medalist Brigette Lacquette, the first First Nations woman to play for Canada’s Olympic hockey team.

No stranger to discrimination, Kirby Howell-Baptiste of The Good Place and the upcoming live-action film Cruella opens up about her rise to fame and why it’s harder for Black actors to make it in London than in Hollywood–as well as what it says about a film set’s inclusivity when there’s no hair stylist who can do her hair.

In fashion, this month is all about how psychedelics are inspiring kaleidoscopic colors and botanical motifs on the runway. Meanwhile, Toronto-based designer Kathryn Bowen talks about her latest collection influenced by old competitive figure skating outfits she rediscovered while home during the pandemic (think youthful sentimentality, elevated sophistication and non-binary tailoring). And we peek behind the scenes at a Chanel runway show where Kristen Stewart was the only guest.

In accessories, we’re looking back on the history of the clog, from Holland to Hermès, and we’re featuring summer sunglasses that prove that la vie is truly en rose (or blue or purple). Plus, the new eyebrow trend everyone’s talking about (and how to do it at home); nautical-inspired styles; and a guide to the summer’s best swoon-worthy romance novels – including recommendations for what to read if you loved Bridgerton or Love Actually.

The June issue of ELLE Canada will hit stands on May 17, 2021.

KO Média Releases Winter Issue of ELLE Canada

KO Média is delighted to reveal the Winter issue of ELLE Canada featuring British actor Letitia Wright of Black Panther fame. The outspoken creative has turned her focus to producing recently in order to helpbetter representation in the entertainment industry.

“I’m happy to be a light in the world,” she says in the candid feature. “That’s my spirit. I can’t be anything else. And if I am, then something’s wrong.”

The issue hits newsstands shortly after Vividata’s Fall 2020 survey results confirmed that ELLE Canada has seen a 30% increase in multiplatform readership, now reaching more than 2.4 million readers every month – 215,000 more than its largest competitor. (This includes an exciting digital readership increase of 85%)

The Winter issue is packed with the varied and thoughtful features that will satisfy ELLE Canada’s loyal readership: prominent women in public office point to the systemic sexism in Canada’s political system; a seasoned fashion journalist questions whether crisis can be a catalyst to create a personal style; actor Viola Davis opens up about her journey to self-acceptance in an intimate conversation.

The issue also answers some of the questions on the minds of ELLE Canada’s readers: What can you gift your friends during this “unprecedented” holiday season? (Spoiler alert: the super stylist gift guide has loads of comforting treats you’ll also covet for yourself.) How can we let go of that post-lockdown shame? Why does a simple swipe of lipstick provide a sense of normalcy during turbulent times?

Plus: The best and boldest beauty looks, breaking the boundaries between day and night dressing and the season’s hottest handbags.

The Winter issue of ELLE Canada will hit stands on Monday, November 16th.

KO Média reveals Nov. issue of ELLE Canada

KO Média is proud to unveil the November issue of ELLE Canada featuring the much-anticipated results of the 2020 Beauty Grand Prix.

This edition of the highly-regarded annual event invited 550 jurors to blind-test 229 products in order to crown only the very best in every category — from skincare to hair-care, from makeup to body-care.
Find out which of your favourite brands made the cut this year — and which new innovators are must-haves!

The issue features more than just hero products: Rising star Florence Pugh, the phenomenon who recently joined the Marvel universe for the upcoming Black Widow, graces the cover. The 24-year old actor who was awarded for her performance in last year’s beloved Little Women opens up about how she’s learned to balance the pressure that comes with starring in a blockbuster franchise. “I wanted to know whether it would be them or me calling the shots,” she explains. “I didn’t want to be part of something where I was constantly checked on and people were making sure I was in the ‘right’ shape.”

Sought-after actor Jodie Turner-Smith also speaks frankly in an intimate feature in the November issue. “There have been so many times in my life when I’ve experienced microaggressions that caused me to say ‘Right, so that’s not acceptable,” she says. “When someone is suffering, their suffering belongs to all of us.”

That search for equity is further considered in the issue via an investigative feature that weighs the risks of so-called ethical AI programs that are being rolled out across Canada. The algorithms are being designed to help companies eliminate harmful racial biases that can affect the hiring process — but, finds journalist Melissa Vincent, there are flaws in the system that aren’t being addressed.

Plus: Have we reached peak skincare?; An intimate tour of designers Byron and Dexter Peart’s iconic Montreal homes and the season’s best minimalist and maximalist shapes.

The November issue of ELLE Canada will hit stands on Monday, October 12th.
