Maya Temple Tour

Hike up to Xunantunich and Cahal Pech Maya Temples imagining what life was like hundreds of years ago. You can listen to the San Ignacio Resort Hotel expert tour guide Cruz Cambranes as he educates you on Mayan cultures and traditions. From the top of the tallest ruin, El Castillo you can see all the way to Guatemala. The Xunantunich and Cahal Pech temples are two very popular sites amongst archaeologists and you will still find them excavating today during certain times of the year.

San Antonio Maya Women’s Community Tour

The Maya community is an integral part of Belize as they were the first to develop the country. The Maya Women’s Community Tour gives you the opportunity to join a Maya community in their village of San Antonio. You will get to observe their way of life as they share their history and culture while preparing a traditional meal complete with corn tortillas, which you will grind the corn the same way Mayas used to many centuries ago. San Ignacio’s AJAW Chocolate & Crafts takes you through all of the procedures needed to create authentic chocolate treats. Located in San Ignacio Town, this tour gives travelers an overview of chocolate at each stage of production and also, an overview of its culinary role within the Maya community. During this immersion, you will be able to grind your own cocoa beans and turn them into your favorite chocolate drink or treat which you can take home and enjoy. You will also have some spare time to browse through the AJAW shop to purchase some of their handmade confections. In addition to learning all you need to know about chocolate, you will also be provided with fun facts and information about Belize and its agricultural products. Garifuna Settlement Day will be celebrated on November 19th to remember the arrival of this group to Belize. This holiday means there will be lots of traditional Garifuna food you can try while watching Garifuna drummers and musicians as they celebrate across the country.
