Yesterday, Cozz also released a short documentary titled Cozz: Effected. The candid and intimate piece follows the South Central native to his childhood home, tracing the origins of his artistry as a rapper and writer. Directed by Darius Turbak, Cozz: Effected also offers insight into Cozz’s writing process and the making of his full-length debut.

In creating Effected, Cozz worked with producers like Meez (his longtime collaborator), Enimal, Louie Ji, and Soul Professa. The album includes three previously released singles: “Questions,” “Badu” (feat. Curren$y), and “Ignorant Confidence” (a track that HotNewHipHop praised for “show[ing] off his rapid-fire flow and slick wordplay”).

Born Cody Osagie, Cozz made his debut in 2013 with a video for his introspective song “Dreams.” The track caught the attention of J. Cole, who signed Cozz to his Dreamville imprint that year. In October 2014, the rapper released his Cozz & Effect project, featuring the Meez-produced single “Cody Macc.” His debut mixtape Nothin’ Personal then arrived in January 2016. Later that year, Issa Rae shouted out Cozz in episode 4 of the first season of her HBO debut, Insecure.
