Thirteen-time Grammy® Award winners The Chicks kicked off their sold out Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour at the historic Fox Theatre in Detroit. The 20-date tour will continue on with stops in major cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Nashville, San Antonio, Austin, Seattle, and San Francisco, before wrapping with three nights in Los Angeles at the Dolby Theatre on November 1, 2, and 3.
From the moment doors opened at the tour opener at Fox Theatre, fans were transported back in time with a montage of never-before-seen archival images of The Chicks setting the tone for an emotional night celebrating the band’s enduring legacy. The trio captivated the audience the moment they hit the stage with “The Long Way Around,” going on to play the entirety of Taking the Long Way in a powerful homage to the album that defined a generation. Natalie Maines’ indomitable vocals, Emily Strayer’s signature banjo twang, and Martie Maguire’s defiant fiddle, celebrated their deep connection with fans cultivated over 20 years as a standing ovation brought the band back out to perform The Chicks greatest hits such as “Wide Open Spaces,” “Cowboy Take Me Away,” “Goodbye Earl” as well as covers of “Landslide” and “Daddy Lessons.” The band also played hits from their latest album Gaslighter, before ending the night with the showstopping anthem “Sin Wagon.”
The Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour is a triumphant commemoration of two decades of the critically acclaimed album that topped the Billboard 200 chart and earned The Chicks five Grammy® Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. Widely regarded as one of the most influential albums of its era, the project showcased The Chicks at their most fearless and vulnerable.
On October 2, Taking the Long Way (20th Anniversary Edition) will be available as a 3LP and available to stream. The 3LP Edition features five bonus tracks (three unreleased demos + two rarities), exclusive etching and refreshed cover art + packaging. “Thin Line” and “Live Wire” will be available to stream for the first time.
