Louis Vuitton’s Fantasmagory is the newest fragrance in the Maison’s Les Extraits Collection. A partnership between the Maison’s Master Perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, and the visionary architect Frank Gehry, this exceptional concentration of fragrance offers a deep, radical, and profound rewriting of the Extraits codes.
Louis Vuitton’s journey to the extraordinary begins with a monumental perfume ingredient: vanilla. Notes of misty anise and gentle floral, leather inflexions are set loose by the use of tahitensis vanilla from Papua New Guinea. Pulp from the whole vanilla pod is cryogenically frozen prior to CO2 extraction, resulting in absolute aromatic purity. Adding texture to this radiant power, almonds from Italy conjure up the creaminess of amaretto. The striking freshness of CO2-extracted ginger provides the ensemble with contrast. Sparkling, citrus-tinged facets build up to a spice that smoulders rather than burns.
Frank Gehry ventures into a new territory in his sculptural odyssey: the fragrance bottle. Reshaping the bottle’s curves, he softened its edges, captured its radiance, and crafted a cap reminiscent of an imagined, wind-blown flower. He breathed fluid, whirling movement into the iconic apothecary bottle designed by Marc Newson. Its remodelled glass shows off a bright, soft, and modern yellow-hued fragrance, glinting with hints of green. As a final flourish, the cap transforms into fluttering silver petals.
The fragrance is now available in select stores and online.
