Today, Gavin James shared his new moving single, “Boxes.” The track marks the Irish artist’s first new music since his 2018 album, Only Ticket Home. “The message of the song is to not listen to anybody. Just listen to yourself and follow your dream,” explains Gavin James. “I went to an all-boys school in Dublin where if you wore the wrong shoes, you had to walk around in slippers all day. I was a bit mad at school, I wouldn’t even try a little bit. For years I had people saying I couldn’t do anything, that it was too hard to make it in music, I shouldn’t try.” James went on to prove the naysayers wrong – racking up over one billion combined global streams, selling 250,000 tickets worldwide, playing shows with Niall Horan, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran, and securing 22 Platinum records in eight different countries. “Boxes” was executive produced by Fred Gibson (George Ezra) and co-produced by Sam Tsang (Ed Sheeran) and Ollie Green (Freya Ridings). It was mixed by 16-time GRAMMY® winner Serban Ghenea (Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes). Simplicity is at the heart of James’ appeal, as hits like “Nervous (The Ooh Song),” “22,” “Hearts On Fire” and “Always” demonstrate. On his albums Live At Whelans (2015), Bitter Pill (2016) and Only Ticket Home (2018) he has displayed a way of penning melodies that sound like they have always existed and yet are entirely new; of writing lyrics that touch on familiar subjects in ways that make them fresh. Noisey.com hailed James as “a soulful singer-songwriter sure to make you feel less alone when you’re down in the dumps” and Clash praised him as “tender, emotional…no mean talent.”
