HOUSING SITE FOR SENIORS

On Thursday, August 31, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and District 13 City Councilmember, Hugo Soto-Martinez celebrated the opening of PATH Villas Hollywood, the community’s newest supportive housing site. PATH Villas Hollywood, developed by PATH Ventures, is a six-story, 60-unit supportive housing development serving low-income seniors ages 55 and up that are transitioning out of homelessness. The event was sponsored by Onni and included speeches from stakeholders and a ribbon cutting with community partners.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass shared, “The PATH Villas project in Hollywood plays an important part in the City’s comprehensive solution to homelessness as it will help ensure older Angelenos have access to stable housing and the services needed to live healthy, full lives. We thank PATH for their partnership to bring more people inside as we work to urgently confront the homelessness crisis.”

The 60-units consist of 45 studios (approx. 450 square feet), 14 one-bedroom units (approx. 740 square feet), and one two-bedroom manager’s unit (970 square feet). All 59 of the supportive units have an operating subsidy through HACLA’s Project-Based Voucher (PBV) program.

PATH CEO Jennifer Hark Dietz stated, “PATH’s history in the Hollywood community runs deep and we are dedicated to supporting people experiencing homelessness here make it home. We recognize the need for more affordable homes to truly end homelessness. That is why we redeveloped this site, making it one of many PATH Ventures communities in operation or development across California, with a large majority in Los Angeles County.”

Supportive services at PATH Villas Hollywood provided by PATH in partnership with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Rooted in a low-barrier Housing First approach, PATH provides evidenced-based interventions to support self- determination and provide opportunities for success, stability, and improved quality of life. On-site services include motivational interview training, building coping skills, harm reduction and life skills education, as well as community building activities and linkages to nearby resources to help residents achieve short-term and long-term goals.

“Residents of this new housing complex will now be able to get mental health/addiction treatment, jobs programs, and everything they need to get on their feet,” said Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez. “This is exactly the type of project we want to see more of, because there are thousands of people living on our streets who want this assistance – we just need to give them a helping hand.”

Property Management and intensive case management offices are located on the ground floor of the building. The ground floor also features a landscaped courtyard as well as a large community room with a communal teaching kitchen. The sixth floor of the building features laundry facilities and a sky deck providing views of Downtown Los Angeles.

The building was constructed in partnership with the Architect’s Collective General Contractor and Westport Construction. Financial partners included California Bank & Trust Public, Los Angeles Housing Department (HHH Funds), Aegon Asset Management, California Department of Housing and Community Development.

“I am proud of these 60 new homes specially designed to assist older adults transitioning out of homelessness,” said California Department of Housing and Community Development Director Gustavo Velasquez. “The partnerships surrounding this community—state funding, local streamlining, and supportive services truly meet the needs of the residents and prove that together we can bring more people into dignified places to call home.”
