Miami Design District x Design Miami/

Returning to the Moore Building in the Miami Design District, the same venue that launched the fair in 2005, Design Miami/ 2020 takes place over ten days—Friday, November 27 through Sunday, December 6. Over 139 pieces will be exhibited from across America, with 57 being shown as part of Podium, a new exhibition concept featuring historic and contemporary design objects, that explore the theme “America(s)” and curated by Design Miami/’s Curatorial Director Aric Chen.

Alongside this new format exhibition, Design Miami/ welcomes 10 international design galleries and four innovative Curio presentations to this year’s show by R&Company, Jason Jacques, Moderne, amongst others. To ensure that guests who cannot attend in person this year are able to take in everything the fair has to offer, all works will simultaneously be available to view and purchase online via Design Miami/ Shop and complemented by a robust program of virtual talks and events, including one with Louis Vuitton’s artistic director Virgil Abloh. The exhibitions will be further complemented by a series of creative brand collaborations and satellite exhibitions, both within the Moore Building and across the Miami Design District.

MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT 2020 ANNUAL DESIGN COMMISSION
The Miami Design District is bringing back the annual Design Commission, where a new emerging creative talent is chosen to reimagine the neighborhood’s public streets through immersive and interactive concepts. Previous Design Commission recipients include Fernando Laposse, Dozie Kanu, Charlap Hyman & Herrero, Philippe Malouin and Snarkitecture to name a few. This year’s winner is renowned Chilean design collective, Great Things to People (gt2P), who will present their proposed installation, Conscious Actions. Featuring interactive, play-ground inspired devices that will be installed throughout the neighborhood, Conscious Actions is reminiscent of carefree, childhood fun, reminding visitors of the direct impact that every action has on our environment. Each device is activated through natural forces, which when used, responds with effects like transformative surfaces, kinetic motion and solar-powered lighting. *Please note – the Design Commission is not part of Design Miami/*
