RADIO GUEST: Summer is Lurking Around The Corner and so is Lyme Disease: 2017 Tick season predicted to be worst in years; How to Fight back

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month
The Lyme Disease Cure
An interview with Dr. Cass Ingram
There’s a tiny, would-be assassin hiding in North America’s fields and woodlands that goes by the name ofioxides scapularis, but is more commonly known as the black-legged deer tick. A single bite from this creature can destroy your life – and if untreated, may even kill you.

“The disease caused by this tiny biting insect is called Lyme disease, and it’s one of the most dreaded and destructive diseases known,” says medicinal spice expert and health researcher Dr. Cass Ingram, author of “The Lyme Disease Cure.” “In the USA alone there are likely a half-million new cases of disease caused by deer tick bites annually – but in many cases, the victim is entirely unaware of what has happened to them.”

Dr. Ingram says a person contracts Lyme disease when cork-screw-like bacteria called “spirochetes” are released from the mouthparts of the biting tick, and bore into the joints and connective tissues of their human hosts, where they cause significant inflammation and pain, as well as tissue damage.

“There are a wide range of other germs which may ‘co-infect’ the tick bite victim, including organisms which may attack the brain and nervous system,” says Dr. Ingram.

MULTIPLE SYMPTOMS MAKE DIAGNOSIS DIFFICULT:

Lyme disease can create a host of confusing symptoms – both immediate and delayed. The disease is frequently misdiagnosed as: fibromyalgia, arthritis, polymyositis, ‘depression,’ multiple sclerosis, ALS, schizophrenia, psychosis, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Lyme also specifically attacks the heart and nervous system. Thus, victims of Lyme and other tick bite diseases are also often told that they have Bell’s palsy, neuropathy, pericarditis, and cardiomyopathy, while tick bite diseases and Lyme as the cause are never considered.

PREVENTING EXPOSURE TO LYME DISEASE AND TICK PATHOGENS:

In 2013, the CDC reported cases of Lyme disease in 46 states. Those camping, canoeing, hiking or vacationing in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin need to take special precautions due to the exceptionally high number of confirmed Lyme disease cases in those states. Such precautions include:

o Wear the lightest-colored clothes possible, preferably white or off-white. White is the best, since the tiny tick nymphs, which are black, can be seen more readily. Larger ticks can be easily seen against such a background.

o Socks are pulled over the pant legs. The socks should be white.

o Spray the shoes, socks, and legs with the natural, potent tick repellent, Herbal Tick-X, part of Dr. Ingram’s new Lyme disease protection kit.

o Check clothes often for evidence of crawling, climbing ticks.

o Wear a hat to prevent ticks from falling from tall grass or trees onto the head.

o Be sensitive, and be aware. Have a high awareness for entities crawling on the body or in the hair. If any such sensations occur, check the body immediately.

o Upon arriving home or when in a secure place, strip down immediately; place all clothing in a plastic bag. Inspect the body fully for ticks. The head and neck should be carefully inspected. The hair should be thoroughly brushed and/or combed all the way down to the scalp. After any wilderness adventure take a shower and scrub the skin.

RESPONSE TO BEING BITTEN:

“Any tick bite, if discovered, should be treated topically. The tick itself, along with the bite area, should be saturated with the oil of wild oregano to attain constant contact, which is ideal to destroy any residual tick-related germs and the consequential local inflammation. That constant contact can also be achieved by saturating a bandage or a piece of cotton and once the tick is removed taping it against the region. This can then be changed every 12 or 24 hours and continued until all infection and inflammation is eradicated.”

BASIC PROTOCOL – TREATING LYME DISEASE WITH WILD SPICES

Wild spices in the form of oil of oregano will literally burn away the protective exterior membranes (biofilm) of viruses and pathogen transmitted by an infected tick. Many types of germ-killing spices are reviewed in the book, and readers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the healing properties and uses of each. The spices used by Dr. Ingram to cure his own Lyme infection included:

o oil of wild oregano (P73 material)

o multiple spice dried essential oil complex consisting of oils of wild oregano and sage, along with remote-source cumin and cinnamon

o juice of wild oregano

o capsules of anti-inflammatory enzymes containing bromelain, papain, and ginger

Angie Martinez paid a visit to the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island

On Wednesday, May 11, multimedia icon Angie Martinez paid a visit to the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island to do a book reading and book donation for some of the female inmates just before Mother’s Day.
Angie read to the inmates from her recent released memoir, My Voice, which candidly recounts the story of her rise to become an internationally celebrated hip-hop radio icon. Angie also held a Q&A with the inmates, where they discussed life challenges and the hardships of motherhood. Angie also signed books for inmates and staff, and also made a donation of her memoir to the new Women’s Library inside the Rose M. Singer center.

Senate Healthcare Negotiations… (Health)

“Disaster” – That’s how one conservative aide familiar with Senate healthcare negotiations characterized Thursday’s meeting of the working group. Despite the publicly upbeat tone from many of the senators after they wrapped up, from what Daily on Health has been able to gather from sources familiar with what went on inside the meeting room, deep rifts opened up on Medicaid, Obamacare regulations and the timing of any repeal. In the meeting, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., presented ideas that would keep Obamacare’s subsidy and regulatory structure intact through 2020, and provide an additional $15 billion in funding to shore up insurance markets in the meantime. That was unsettling to conservatives led by Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who are skeptical that repeal would ever happen if it were delayed until after the next presidential election. But Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Rob Portman, R-Ohio, were more sympathetic. More centrist members of the group also spoke of tightening the rules for regulatory waivers, forcing states to enact measures to auto-enroll residents in health plans before they can be eligible to apply to get out of enforcing Obamacare’s rules. This was another non-starter for conservatives in the group, who have another ally on the regulatory front in Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin. Additionally, as reported earlier in this week, Sen. Pat Toomey and Portman were instructed by McConnell to hash out a compromise on Medicaid, but talks got nowhere, as Portman still wants a more gradual transition off Obamacare’s expansion and has been presenting a plan from Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., that would allow federal Medicaid payments to grow at medical inflation plus 2 percent. But Toomey and the rest of conservatives want to see its growth slowed down and an accelerated timeline for unwinding the expansion. Other sources, however, pushed back against this dire portrait of talks, portraying things as more unsettled, and the various proposals being presented as more discussion points than firm lines in the sand.

Aetna CEO says single-payer debate should happen: CEO Mark Bertolini pointed to public-private partnerships, like those of Medicare Advantage and Medicaid Managed Care. “The government doesn’t administer anything,” he said. “The first thing they’ve ever tried to administer in social programs was the ACA, and that didn’t go so well. So the industry has always been the back room for government… But if we want to turn it all over to the government to run, is the government really the right place to run all this stuff? And that’s the debate that needs to be had. They could finance it, and if there is one financer, and you could call that single-payer.”

Kaiser Permanente plans to stay in Obamacare exchanges: Bernard Tyson, chief executive of insurer Kaiser Permanente, said Thursday that the company would be sticking with the Obamacare exchanges, despite acknowledging that they were unstable.

Republicans search for ways to reduce insurer premiums: The 14-member healthcare working group met briefly Thursday to discuss Obamacare’s insurance regulations, including protections for pre-existing conditions and essential health benefits. Senators said they discussed how to stabilize the exchanges, both in the short- and long-term, and touted certain aspects of the House plan, including the option of turning to risk pools to help cover costs of people with pre-existing conditions.

Delaware judge allows Cigna to walk away from merger with Anthem: The proposed $48 billion merger was initially challenged by the Justice Department under the Obama administration on antitrust grounds, and the latest decision marks the second time that a judge has opposed the merger. Anthem has until noon Monday to decide whether to appeal to Delaware’s Supreme Court, or it otherwise may have to pay out $15 billion to Cigna. Anthem also has asked the Supreme Court to weigh the case.

Budget chief Mick Mulvaney: “person who sits at home, eats poorly and gets diabetes” is “not the same as Jimmy Kimmel’s kid”: Mulvaney said the president was considering executive order actions that he could take on drugs and cast the Congressional Budget Office as inadequate at projecting the costs and uninsurance rates for legislation. Appearing on the panel with him was Peter Orszag, who was OMB director for a time under Obama. Orszag defended the scorekeeping agency as well as Obamacare. Mulvaney was asked what he thought of the “Jimmy Kimmel test.” “I do think it should meet that test,” Mulvaney said of a new healthcare law. “We have plenty of money to deal with that. We have plenty of money to provide that safety net so that if you get cancer you don’t end up broke … that is not the question. The question is, who is responsible for your ordinary healthcare? You or somebody else?” He said the debate centered on whether others should pay the burden of paying for someone’s healthcare. “That doesn’t mean we should take care of the person who sits at home, eats poorly and gets diabetes. Is that the same thing as Jimmy Kimmel’s kid? I don’t think that it is.”

Walls fall in on Obamacare: From the Washington Examiner editorial board: “It’s not just a Republican talking point that Obamacare is falling apart. Democrats’ efforts to shift all blame to President Trump and his party are misleading. Obamacare is crumbling because it was poorly made.”

Trump health bill really unpopular, poll shows: Twenty-one percent of Americans approve of the Republican bill to repeal and replace Obamacare that passed the House last week, a modest 4 percentage point improvement over the last poll…The poll showed that 56 percent of Americans disapprove of the House bill, called the American Health Care Act, while 23 percent didn’t answer the question or said they didn’t know. The poll also gave key insights into feelings on major sticking points over healthcare.

VA whistleblowers say retaliation getting worse under Trump: Whistleblowers who have been in their share of battles with the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Obama administration say retaliation is getting worse under President Trump, despite Trump’s assurances in April that he was taking steps to protect employees who point out problems at the troubled agency. Several whistleblowers and sources with experience investigating the VA told the Washington Examiner that while Trump seems to want to fix the broken VA, his goals, including whistleblower protection, are largely being ignored. “The VA’s going after these guys with a vengeance,” said Eric Hannel, former staff director for the House Veterans’ Affairs subcommittee on oversight and investigations, who is still in contact with whistleblowers around the country.

Health and Nutrition habits (Health)

PRESS RELEASE
Health and Nutrition habits:

47% of people eat meat everyday
The healthy eating movement has been thriving in the U.S. and it accelerated under the Obama administration as First Lady Michelle Obama picked nutrition as her cause.

With summer coming up, ReportLinker conducted a survey to examine Americans’ health and eating habits.

Main findings show that:

When making nutrition choices:

  • Almost a third of Americans say they eat fast food weekly
  • 84% of people don’t eat 5 fruits and vegetables per day as advised by health professionals

70% of people are not ready to have a vegetarian meal at least once a week

  • 47% of people eat meat everyday
  • And for 69% of vegans and vegetarians, health is the prime reason for making this lifestyle change, while 19% say they made the switch out of concerns for the environment.

When it comes to physical activities:

  • 72% of women are more likely to say they don’t work out or play sports compared to 45% of men
  • Millennials (aged 18 to 34) also tend to hit the trail or the gym more with 34% saying they train daily.

The Applewood Inn is the spot to be in Sonoma County

“The Applewood Inn is the spot to be in Sonoma County!”

Merely an hour from the Golden Gate bridge, in the heart of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir growing region, there is the finest hideaway you could ever find for those wine lovers. 360 MAGAZINE had the pleasure to spend two memorable nights in such a secluded, peaceful resort while immersing in a wine country living. Applewood Inn was built in 1922, at a carefully selected location to explore Redwood National Park, wineries and the rugged and beautiful Sonoma Coast.

The original structure (Belden Mansion) of the property was built in 1922, and became a hotel in the spring of 1985, when the original owners, Jim Caron and Darryl Notter opened the doors to the public. The restaurant opened on Thanksgiving Day in 1985, quickly garnering an international reputation for fine dining. The property has had numerous improvements over the years, with the most recent renovation being in 2016. The long-awaited restaurat Pinoli Cucina Rustica will be opening at Applewood on May 15th, 2017 under the guidance of Christian Darcoli.

This slightly off-the-beaten path inn offers 19 cozy rooms with a fireplace, comfy beds and even a mini-wine fridge to store all of your Russian River wineries or beer purchases. If you are visiting during this time of year, we suggest swimming in the heated pool/jacuzzi surrounded by a tranquil environment. Furthermore, breakfast at the Applewood Inn Restaurant was superb. Exploring the vineyards is a great deal easier after a two course mouthwatering meal accompanied by bottomless mimosas and spectacular views.

Among other attractions during your accommodation in Applewood, it is nearly mandatory to conduct a wine tasting at Dutcher Crossing Winery (www.dutchercrossingwinery.com) where you can try a wide variety of wines grown in the area. Our top selection was the 2015 Terra de Promissio Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2015 Chenoweth Vineyard Chardonnay. In addition, one of our most unforgettable moments during our journey in Sonoma County was our bike tour with Russian River Cycles (http://www.russianrivercycles.com) helmed by our wine expert Nick Briggs. For those explorers, there’s excellent hiking/walking trails throughout Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=450) nearby the Russian River, where you can encounter a remarkable stump that washed ashore on Johnson’s Beach in 2006 (donated to the park by then owner Clare Harris).

Applewood Inn Restaurant & Spa believes in the security of the earth’s finite resources and that is why they rely on solar panels and self-sufficiency. Guests can embrace the ultimate “farm to table” experience since the bulk of their produce for the restaurant is grown onsite in the gardens, surrounded by lush vegetation.  If this eco-awareness was not enough, they’re also installing additional vehicle charging stations in mid-spring.

This charming hotel is the perfect combination of unpretentious, down to earth-ness mixed with the sophistication of great wine and delicious food. The most pleasant of the choices when you are looking for a romantic stay in Sonoma County or a friendly getaway.

ABOUT JOHN MELLENCAMP

John Mellencamp’s career in music, spanning more than 35 years, has seen him transition from pop star to one of the most highly respected singer/songwriters of a generation.  Mellencamp is incredibly acclaimed; he is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Grammy winner, a recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, ASCAP Foundation’s Champion Award, The Woody Guthrie Award and Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award and more recently, the Founders Award, the top honor assigned by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. He is also one of the most successful live concert performers in the world.   In 1985,  Mellencamp, together with Willie Nelson and Neil Young, created Farm Aid. The social activism reflected in his songs helped catalyze Farm Aid, the concert series and organization that has addressed the struggle of American family farmers for more than 25 years. John also wrote the title song for the upcoming film, The Yellow Birds, an American war film directed by Alexandre Moors and based on the novel The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers. The film stars Tye Sheridan, Jack Huston, Alden Ehrenreich, Jennifer Aniston, and Toni Collette.  John continues to focus on another facet of his artistic expression: painting. His style has progressed over the years as evidenced by several gallery shows and published portfolios, and in recent years he has increased his output by completing over 100 new works. His pieces were shown in 2012 at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville under the title “Nothing Like I Planned: The Art Of John Mellencamp” and, more recently at the Butler Institute of American Art in an exhibition entitled “The Paintings Of John Mellencamp.”  “The Paintings of John Mellencamp” traveled to the Museum of Art-DeLand, Florida and John’s art was showcased at the ACA Gallery in New York. The unique instrumentation of his band and his poignant songs about everyday life in the American heartland, are widely credited with being the forbearer of the Americana/No Depression genre of rural-inflected music.  An extraordinary collaboration performed by an ensemble cast of 15 actors and a four-piece live band, comprised of members of John Mellencamp’s band is The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, a musical with music and lyrics by John Mellencamp, a libretto by author Stephen King and production by T Bone Burnett. The show is being further developed in London, though King and Mellencamp are no longer as actively involved.  Mellencamp continues his journey as the walking embodiment of heartland rock; passionate, plain-spoken, and a self-proclaimed rebel.  John Mellencamp continues to live and work in Bloomington, Indiana.
